Moving Guide: Appliances

 

Clean and dry large appliances as a first step of the preparation. Grease will leave spots on anything that touches it. Dry out freezers and refrigerators.

Dishwasher

Clean and dry the machine. Disconnect and dry the hoses. Leave the door open for few days so the machine can dry completely. Wrap the hoses in towels and paper and place them inside the dishwasher.

Washing Machine

Clean and dry the machine. Disconnect and dry the hoses.

Wrap the hoses in towels and paper and place them inside the dishwasher.
Follow the user manual to secure the tub and to prevent swaying. You can also arrange a third party service provider to prepare your washing machine for the move. Have the machine installed by a qualified installer at your new home.

Clothes Dryer

Unplug or turn off the dryer from electrical power before cleaning. Clean the lint screen. If you are moving a gas dryer, arrange a qualified technician to disconnect it and to cap the gas line.

Stove Top/Oven

Clean stove top and oven well. Take away all removable parts and pack them safely in a carton. Mark clearly the contents.

If you are moving a gas range, arrange a qualified technician to disconnect it and to cap the gas line. After arriving at your new residence, you will need a qualified technician to connect it to the gas line.

Refrigerator

Unplug or turn off the refrigerator from electrical power before cleaning.
Leave the doors open and allow the refrigerator and freezer to dry thoroughly and all moisture to evaporate.
Pack all removable parts including bins and shelves in a carton.
Clean the evaporator pan and allow time for it to dry.

Microwave Oven

Remove glass trays, wrap them securely and pack them in a carton.
Place the microwave oven in its original box or in a well-cushioned carton.
Do not to block the exhaust vent when installing it at your new home.
