By Mathew J. of London, Great Britain

The way the crew cared for our goods. We had alot of fragile stuff. But nothing was broken. The driver & crew were very nice. The representatives quotes were right on the money.

Packing Guide: Garage/Storage

Garages and storage are usually hardest to pack. They are full of strange shaped, sharp or heavy items that require special attention to be packed the right way.

First get rid of items that cannot be moved. These are chemicals, fertilizers, oil and gas. Group similar items together. Get enough boxes and newsprint for the packing.

Tools

Long-handled garden tool should be securely packed together. Remove the attachments and pack them separately.

Leave the hand tools in tool boxes and fill the empty spaces with crushed paper. Use small cartons for heavy tools. Wrap the sharp-edged tools in old towels.

Brooms and Rakes

Do not pack brooms, rakes and shovels. Just gather them together and the driver will bundle them in a pad.

Garden furniture

Remove all the pads and pack them in large cartons. Clean the frames.

Umbrella

Remove the stand and leave it unpacked. Wrap the umbrella in paper padding or plastic to keep it dry during transport.

Grill

Remove and dispose unused charcoal. Take out the fuel tank – it cannot be transported in the moving van.

Outdoor Equipment

Sort out the things that you will not take with you. Dismantle children’s swing sets and garden sheds that will be moved.

Pack small hardware in plastic bags or small boxes and label them.
Attach the plastic bags with small hardware to the item they belong to.
Drain and dispose any unused gasoline.

Ceramic Pots and Planters

Wrap ceramic pots and planters individually with plenty of cushioning. If you want to move large or unusual pots, consult your moving adviser.

Garbage Cans

Usually it is easier buy new garbage cans at your destination instead of moving the old ones.
If you plan to move your cans with you clean them well.
You can use the cans to pack large and light items in them.

Consult with your moving professional on the following items:

  • satellite dish
  • storage shed
  • jungle gym
  • dog house or kennel
  • riding mower
  • gas leaf blower
  • snow blower
  • motor scooter
  • moped
  • trampoline
  • above-ground swimming pool
  • hot tub
