Plovdiv, Bulgaria’s second-largest city, rivals Sofia for its fascinating historical, archaeological and cultural wealth. It is not by chance that Plovdiv will be European Capital of Culture in 2019. The city also has plenty of shopping opportunities, good hotels and restaurants and sports facilities.
At Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast, Varna is the largest city, followed by Bourgas. Both are important tourism and business centres in the coastal region, host commercial seaports, and each has its own airport, especially busy in the peak summer season with charter flights and holiday flights by foreign low-cost airlines. Both cities connect to the rest of the country and the region by rail and bus lines.

Visa and Residence requirements

If you are an EU citizen, holder of a valid ID card or passport, you can reside in Bulgaria for a period of up to three months following your entry into the country. You must then apply for a long-term residence permit.
